BenQ TK800 Projector

My 65 inch Samsung Smart TV is seriously being underutilized since it was bought a couple of months back and it hurts that I am still paying for the monthly instalments from Best Denki for the purchase! I limit the kiddos' access to their tablets strictly, hence the reason for not turning on the television was not due to their addiction to the smaller screen. But rather it was because they wanted to watch their shows on an even bigger screen, their BenQ TK800 projector!

You see, every night without fail, the kiddos will be asking if they could watch their movies on the projector after their dinner . And I really mean it when I said they were asking for movie nights EVERYDAY! It could be Steffi asking for her Harry Porter fix, or Leroy requesting for his Ju-On horror flick. But every night it would be the same thing asked, albeit by different kiddos. They all want to watch their movie on the big "wall"! In fact for some weird reason, Leroy even enjoys playing his mobile games with his eyes on the handphone, but with the screen mirrored through the projector so that his siblings can look on as he kills his enemies. Having said that, they do not always get their requests to use the projector acceded to.

Movies anytime they wanted, as long as homework is done!

It is not only movie nights we are talking about, but on weekends or days off from school, they also love to catch some football actions or Okto programs on the wall. Unlike my previous experiences with projectors, there is no need to purposely dim the room just for the BenQ TK800 to work. In fact, the colors remain vivid even when I had the lights switched on! I am no techie when it comes to screen resolutions or what nots, but the 4K HDR projector lives up to its hype of having crisp images and vivid colors even for non 4K contents. To be absolutely honest I have yet to try any 4K content, but the normal streaming contents we find online so far, was already enough to wow all of us. Was told that the projector will also upscale normal 1080p content to 4K display resolutions as well. Little wonder the videos taken using my Samsung Note 8 still looked that good through the projector even after video editing on my mobile!

The projector is easy to operate and one can easily select the correct mode based on the surroundings for the best effect! The different modes are as follows -

  • Bright Mode: Maximizes the brightness of the projected image. This mode is suitable for environments where extra-high brightness is required, such as using the projector in well lit rooms.
  • Vivid TV Mode: Being slightly brighter than Cinema mode, it is suitable for playing movies in rooms where there is a small amount of ambient light, e.g. your living room.
  • Cinema Mode: With well-balanced color saturation and contrast with a low brightness level, this is most suitable for enjoying movies in a totally dark environment (as you would find in a commercial cinema).
  • Sport Mode: Best for watching indoor matches, e.g. basketball, volleyball, and badminton.
  • Football Mode: Perfect for watching games on the field, e.g. football and soccer.
Doesn't matter if your lights are on, the colors are still vivid on football mode!
  • Silence Mode: Minimizes the acoustic noise. It is suitable for the need of watching movies that requires an ultra-quiet environment so that you won't be disturbed by the noise of the projector. This mode is only available when the DISPLAY > Silence menu is set at On.

Having experienced the BenQ TK800 projector for over 2 months now, I do have my regrets. My biggest regret was in getting the gigantic 65 inch television which is collecting dust in the living room now while the kiddos are all enjoying the projector in our bedroom! With the portability of the 4.2kg projector, I can move it to any of the rooms I wanted, or even keep it in the cabinet when not in use, unlike the huge television! I also think that there is always this fear that the lamp may not last long enough or costs to much to replace, or that the projector is too expensive to buy and will become a white elephant in the house BUT one really needs to try it out to feel the magic. Imagine having a cinema theatre in your own house, that is exactly what it feels like for our family these days!

You can find more product information on the official BenQ website, or even get your TK800 directly on Lazada now!
